Our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice
At Doing Good, we are committed to creating an inclusive and equitable environment in all of our projects. This policy outlines our approach to ensuring diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice when working with partners and participants in co-design, research activities, and events facilitated by Doing Good. It is designed to ensure that we create inclusive, accessible, and equitable spaces for participants, irrespective of their background, identity, or experience.
Our Commitments
Inclusive Partnerships
We are committed to partnering with organizations, funders, and stakeholders who share our values around DEIJ. We actively seek partners who are committed to addressing systemic barriers and ensuring representation from diverse communities in all project phases.
Representation in Co-Design and Research
In all co-design and research projects, we ensure the involvement of participants from a broad range of backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences. This includes targeted outreach to underrepresented groups to ensure that their perspectives are central to the process.
Creating Safe and Accessible Spaces
We design our workshops, research sessions, and co-design activities to be inclusive and accessible to all participants. This includes:
Offering multiple modes of participation (e.g., in-person, virtual, telephone) to accommodate different needs.
Providing language support, translation services, or alternative communication methods where necessary.
Ensuring venues are physically accessible and that events are scheduled at convenient times for participants.
Offering compensation for participants' time and contributions where appropriate.
Addressing Power Dynamics
We acknowledge that power imbalances can exist in co-design and research spaces. We work proactively to identify and address these imbalances, ensuring that all participants, especially those from marginalized communities, have equal opportunities to contribute and influence outcomes. Our facilitators are trained to navigate sensitive discussions, encourage active listening, and amplify the voices of those who might otherwise be overlooked.
Continuous Learning and Improvement
We are committed to an ongoing process of learning and reflection to ensure that our practices around DEIJ evolve and improve. We seek feedback from participants and partners after every project and adjust our methods accordingly to create more inclusive and just environments.
Accountability and Transparency
We hold ourselves accountable to the principles outlined in this policy. This includes regularly reviewing our processes and ensuring transparency in how decisions are made and how participants’ input is used. We are committed to being open about the challenges we face and the steps we take to address them.
Safeguarding
Doing Good is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of everyone who participates in our co-design and research projects. This policy outlines how we protect participants, especially those who may be vulnerable, and ensure a safe, respectful environment.
Our Commitments
Creating Safe Spaces
We aim to create environments where all participants feel safe and respected. We prioritise clear communication, support for vulnerable individuals, and making sure everyone feels comfortable contributing.
Supporting Vulnerable Participants
We recognise that some participants may need additional support. We make sure that all participants are fully informed, and for anyone under 18, we obtain parental consent. We also provide accommodations like extra support during sessions if needed.
Confidentiality
We protect participants' privacy and handle all personal information securely. Where we conduct anonymised research, confidentiality is guaranteed unless we need to report a safeguarding concern.
Responding to Concerns
If any safeguarding concerns arise, we will act immediately. Concerns will be reported to our partner organisation and to the appropriate authorities (e.g., social services, government bodies or police) in line with UK law.
